We've done a few, from the patient response it's a really good lens that deserves to be at the top tier of progressives, but like all other Varilux lenses there are lenses that patient's like just as much for considerably less

That's the usual critique of Varilux

I'm in the -4.50/5.00 range and wear the X in 1.74 with Transitions and Prevencia. It's a really nice lens, but nothing has compare to the "wow factor" experience I had when I put on my first pair of Zeiss Individuals. They are amazing.

I would agree with this for the most part but I think this is true for most top tier progressives. I do find the intermediate area seems higher in the X even though it doesn't seem wider. But it does not compromise the distance. Thats where it shines for me.

Redhot Jumper A new definition of near vision.....................................

here is what Essilor says about them:

Varilux X series is the first Varilux lens to dramatically reduce head movement and ensure that your vision is as natural as possible for everyday activities within arm's reach and beyond. Varilux X series is the best Varilux we've ever designed.

A NEW DEFINITION OF NEAR VISION

Your posture and the way you look at things up close have changed. You're now drinking coffee while texting the kids, sending an email via a tablet on the train or checking your social news feed every other hour. In short, everything that matters today happens within arm's reach. Before now, no varifocal lens has been designed to accommodate these modern day behaviours and therefore you had to, 'point your nose to where you want to look at'

Varilux X series removes this limitation through its 'Xtend' technology, dramatically reducing head movement so you don’t have to find the sweet spot.

My story is similar. Zeiss Individual 2/I is the best lens I've ever worn. The thing I can add is that I tried the Varilux S Design last year and hated it. The X Design is much better for me.

I love Zeiss lenses. I just wish their company wasn't such a train wreck.

I agree. How much more expensive is this Varilux X lens ?

I would say probably 30% to 50% more expensive than the Zeiss Individual 2 PAL.

    That is to say, VERY.

Same here...absolutely despised the S lens (great dv with non existant intermediate vision) but am loving the X. Haven't tried the Zeiss lens yet, but since I spend a lot of time in front of a desktop pc I'm certainly intrigued.

If that's the case, one might also consider the less expensive Shamir InTouch.

I think after reviewing the lens designs of all the brands they were invested in, Essilor did. The Varilux house though, people wearing sensor suits while living there - you can't say they didn't invest heavily in market research before combining the idea of the InTouch into their S Design blank investment.

I would be interested in more wearer comparisons between Individual 2I, Varilux X, Shamir Intouch (also the Shamir Spectrum+) and Unity Via Mobile designs.

First reports by less than a dozen employees are great acceptance and quick adaptability to this lens. The biggest difference reported between Zeiss Precision Pure or an IOT/ Younger design is the increased depth of focus in the Varilux X.

    Late to the party.

I'm a -7.00 +2.50 add kinda guy (but still hot).

The "X" is a very nice lens. It has great distance utility (despite the high add and 1.67 material) and very nice near utility.

It feels like they've managed the astigmatism very "globally" so it gives a nice "orthoscopic" feel.

I wear them happily except for work. The intermediate utility is, sorry to say, poor.

I compare them to my Auto III and I find the intermediate/near utility on those so much better. In fact, I can use them when desktopping. Now, the distance is not as wide, for sure.
