Hello OptiBoard members, and any potential students.
BC College of Optics is pleased to support the good work of Steve and OptiBoard by using this Forum opportunity to share our vision of providing effective, condensed opticianry training in the shortest time-frame available anywhere in North America.

Formal education is changing in this new millennium, with the advent of advanced training technologies, webinars, podcasts and online learning through the Internet. BC College of Optics was able to break down opticianry training into basic component parts that enable students to more readily comprehend difficult optical concepts and see the relationship between theory and optical practice.

All learning can be classified into three (3) main categories... 1) Must Know, 2) Should Know and 3) Nice to Know. BC College of Optics’ specialized training concentrates on 1) and 2), with only some of 3), so that we can teach all the required optical competencies for an entry-level optician in the very shortest time.

BC College of Optics had held British Columbia CANADA Ministry of Advanced Education formal accreditation since 1998, and is a pioneer in innovative training processes for opticianry. Our experienced and award-winning optical instructors, combined with BCCO’s proprietary intellectual property and its taking advantage of technological advances in training aids, mean our students can obtain a quality optical education in both dispensing and contact lens fitting, and in only 6-months.

We are at the dawn of a new age in education, with students having the entire resources of the Library of Congress at its fingertips through their cell phones. Innovation benefit both consumers and education. BCCO’s 6-month program is an example of disruptive innovation , and its radically new way of learning can’t come too soon. With only 23 US States offer formal licensure, and budding new opticians want and need a quicker way to become competent.

BC College of Optics offers our unique 6-month training program, marrying intensiveness and condensation, yet mastering effectiveness. And since our opticianry program is exactly 6-months in length, no Student Visa or Study Permits applications are required by USA students.
