Redhot Jumper Vision Expo News 2018...............................

Essilor to offer blue light filter on all products

    March 16, 2018

NEW YORK – Essilor of America will offer blue light filtering on all of its spectacle lenses, according to an executive here at a company-sponsored press conference held during Vision Expo East.

Chief marketing officer Sherianne James, said: “We want to establish blue light as a category that the eye care provider can choose as a protective solution. We introduce today the Essential Blue Series, a comprehensive solution for blue light for our patients.”

James said the new product offers three times the protection of a regular clear lens and filters 20% of harmful blue light with no compromise in clarity.

Essilor introduced Crizal Prevencia in 2013 and then the Smart Blue Filter in 2016, but only for its premium lenses
“One of the challenges is people want to be able to see clearly,” James said. “We want to give consumers the protection they need without the compromise of a tint. With this series, 100% of our lenses will have a blue light option. We want to give ECPs the right to choose whether to recommend a clear solution or a blue solution.”
She said consumers are aware of blue light and are willing to pay for the protection.

“They’ll pay $20 or more for this solution,” James said. “We want to let your ECPs know that they can charge for this.”
Crizal Prevencia can be added, offering another 30% protection to the 20% provided by the Essential Blue Series.
“And with Transitions you can get blue light protection indoors and outdoors,” James said. “It’s embedded in the lens for indoors, and when it activates, you get protection
outdoors.” – by Nancy Hemphill, ELS, FAAO

    Disclosure:
    James is employed by Essilor.

Hmmm, so I interpret this as more of a forced price hike whether you want the product or not?
