    Xperio UV Lenses

    Dear All,

What's the difference between Xperio UV lenses versus any other polarized lens that I could apply a UV coat and backside AR on?

    Thanks!

Xperio was originally introduced as a complete lens 'system'. Polarization, Crizal SunShield backside AR, and three lenses available in mirror as well. The idea was to try and brand polarization in a similar way that Transitions has become somewhat ubiquitous with photochromic lenses, as brands like Kleenex are with facial tissues. Their line has expanded quite a bit from the early launch into all sorts of wacky colors, and I don't think they're all polar anymore, I'm not certain if the A/R is still systemic, and the mirrors are different now as well. *shrug*

Yes what Uillean said, the Xperio UV lens is just consumer-directed marketing for Essilor brand polarized lenses with the Xperio UV AR (which I cannot for the life of me figure out how is different from Crizal Sunshield, except maybe the backside UV. But it's much better priced, I like that!). The main difference is Xperio is a Crizal product, therefore including dual-sided thermal dip hardcoating, which you will not get if you put any old AR backside. Also the "UV" in this product is not the generic kind that reduces UV transmittance, it's specifically to reduce the UV reflectance off the backside of the lens into the eye. There are other ARs you could backside coat that do it to, it's just universally systematic on all the Crizals now.
