Thinking about getting a new edger. Anyone have any experience with Essilor Mr. Blue? Any feedback is appreciated.

We have the first generation of Mr Blue, after that we purchased Mr Blorange.
Happy, nut extended maintenance is a small fortune and only covers 50% parts.
Quite slow also!
Thanks for the info. Do you have step bevel capability? Initial investment? I’ve been an Optronics user got 20 years and it’s time for a new edger so I’m exploring.
As an Optronics user, you may be interested in QM-X3. Similar interface, same tech support, etc. 4 Axis with step and angle bevels, drill, wrap capabilities, but the Chemistire programming won't be available until April. Ours is being installed at the end of this month. Looking forward to upgrading my original 7E to QM.
No matter what you finally select the new IRS tax code allows you to expense the purchase on this years taxes rather than depreciating it over a number of years. Run this by your accountant first.
For the life of me, I cannot remember what the difference is between Mr Orange and Mr Blue. I used to work for a company that used both, and I was able to do pretty much everything on Mr Orange. Here's a few facts:
1. Does not have step beveling capability. That ability is really only available on much higher-end edgers.
2. It does have a VERY useful mode that makes the bevel match the frame's bevel exactly! I've gone into offices where they've reordered lenses three times and kept cutting the them on sunglass mode or some-such and the lenses would keep falling out. I use that mode and the lenses would fit perfectly because the bevel was matching the slight base changes in the frame's groove. SUPER-handy
3. It's drilling/bevel-placement/ grooving interface is excellent IMO.
4. It does have a function that let's you groove the bottom of a lens and bevel the top.... which I used twice probably.
5. I did find that lenses seemed to slip a lot more in this machine.
6. The tracer is waaaay better for Rimless than, say, Briot.
7. Lens blocking is a lot easier than other blocker's I've used.
8. Lens Hacking (redoing a shape after you've unchucked it, subtly changing a lens shape that got messed up somehow) is pretty easy and you can force the machine to edge things that other machines would typically outright refuse to do.
9. Really not sure if it can do counter-sink holes for Chemistry clips
We do a lot of chem clips and when we do them on silhouettes we drill into the lens for the silh chassie to be mounted in or deep into the lenses vs. sticking out so that the chem slip will fit better. We could just drill a notch out of the chem clip but I can't remember why we chose to do it this way. More of a streamlined look with the clip.
Thanks for all the input. May just get another 7E
I will have an Optronics HLP available once the QMX3 is installed. The HLP is the the predecessor to the 7E and will use all of the same parts as the 7E. It will need a new water system and the drill to be enabled. Other than that, it has been a workhorse for us. We use it for CR and Poly. It is destined for recycling otherwise. PM me if interested.
PM sent.
