Confused Can't get 1.74, Transitions Brown and Prevencia

Our Essilor lab called this morning and told us we had to switch the patient to either transitions brown or sharpview. Can anyone explain this to me? We also had this same lab tell us that they couldn't do any a/r coating on a -4.50 cyl, as the cylinder was "too high."

Time for a new lab. Or ask to talk to the production/floor manager at least.

Yeah I've had the same thing through an EYEMED job recently (via their contracted TriSupreme Lab). Varilux Physio W3+ in a 1.74, Transitions Grey with Prevencia A/R. They said they couldn't coat a Prevencia on that lens and recommended us to downgrade the patient to the Avance... what???

They said we could get the gray, just not the brown. It makes no sense to me.

Just depends on what lenses are available with what AR treatments. Prevencia isn't done systemically on 1.74 as I understand it. Though you can probably get 1.67, along with the requested Transitions 7 color. Did you see if that was a possible fall back option?

In my experience, labs tell you no for two reasons- the product does not hold up or it is not profitable for them to offer such a combination.

To be fair, hi index with trans and AR is a notoriously fickle combo. Lots of problems with longevity in my office.

I also have to ask- does the patient have deteriorating eye health? Usually the combination of trans and a blue blocking AR is overkill for the typical glasses wearer.
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?

Often companies will put the new help answering the phone. I think it's a big mistake. Just know you most always need to get passed the first person answering the phone.
