    Viscosity Measurements

    Hello,

We are considering making an investment in the equipment necessary to monitor the viscosity of our hardcoating lacquers.

My question is, will this give us any valuable information that we could use to predict end of life, or help us to revive old, failing lacquers? If it only tells us that a lacquer has failed, when this is already apparent; and the only remedy is to change the said lacquer, then there would not seem to be much point.

Has anybody any experience with these sort of measurements?

    Many Thanks,

    Falstaff

Pay a visit to your local paint store and they will show you how to measure the viscosity with a flow cup. An auto body repair shop will also help.

As having produced such babies for the last 30 years I would recommend that you make no such investment.

Those products can have a shelf life that should be marked on the product as *best before .............Date*. Then just stop using it before it falls apart. Do not spend money on a dying product, just replace it.
