    Crown Glass AR

We don't do tons of crown glass. We have a patient who is getting a polarized sunglasses and wanted to get AR. I'm not super familiar with AR on crown glass. I know that not all AR will go on crown glass or at least that's what the lab tells me. Anyone had any good success with a certain type of AR for crown glass? Does it adhere well or is it just better to go without?

Why even bother? Switch them to plastic.

I still have a well used LEICA IIIc (Made in the 1930s)on my bookshelf next to a LEICAFLEX SL (Made in the 1960s by Leitz Wetzlar).

Even the old IIIc has AR coated lenses which has been the in thing, since these old days when there was no plastic lenses for along time to come.

Both cameras and their lenses are still looking like brand new while have been used in years of service.

AR coatings on glass have been a standard as forever while on plastic lenses it still can wear off and delaminate. Your question should have been the exact opposite.

I totally agree with Chris Ryser!

Ar on glass it lasts virtually forever.

Here in Europe where I live plastic is the big market like in the Usa... but some glass lenses (usually titanium/lantanium but also crown) especialy with Ar coat is still common (even hydrophobic top coat).

You need a Lab that know what they doing ;)

Thanks for the information. I'll let the patient know.

If you have multiple labs you have an account with, call around. The last time I had to do this the best coating the lab could use was Zeiss Blue (I'm pretty sure this have been discountiued). Find the best coating/price combination and go with that. When I have to do this (maybe 3 times in 15 years) there has been no issues with the coating and the patient has been happy.
