PM Software For New Optical Retail Store

I'm looking for advice on a practice management software for an optical only, no doctor, private pay(non insurance), retail store.

Any good user feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

You might start by looking at QuickBooks, Quicken, Sage 50 or any number of off the shelf applications. For your limited needs any of them are easily adapted.

I agree with Rbaker, use a combo of Quickbooks or something and a database software which you can import RX/Frame parameters, or maybe that free wink software.

The main reason we use the practice software we do is because our doctor loves the Exam portion of it, otherwise it would be expensive, unwieldy and buggy.

Would love to try to compile a list with ratings of all the software everyone uses. I know different practices have different needs but it still could be helpful. I am a independent working for a hospital. Using My Vision Express . On a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a 5 maybe 6.

I'd give officemate a 5, maybe a 6 on a good day haha. But the doctors love it in the exam room which
    means I love it too

    You can use Altapoint.

For your needs in your shop, this one seems to me the best suited. Simple & cheap.

We have been demo-ing WINK Software. I have mixed feelings about this software. I think its just a bit too much... too detailed

rbaker, do any of these applications offer patient demographic, Rx info and optical order history capabilities? I would need to be able to have a client/patient database where I could save patient info, copies of their Rx as well as optical order forms.

    Thanks,

I suggest you go to their websites and check them out. You could also consider Microsoft Office and create and modify exactly what you need. You can get all the training that you need at you local school.

The mentioned programs above although useful for some day to day applications, do not suit your needs as much as the three examples suggested here, you can click on them to get an idea what their about:

    Officemate
    Compulink
    Altapoint

Unfortunately, a lot of these practice management systems are not as primitive as you may want for your stores daily operations, however they all can save RX's, Customer/Patient information, Payments, Inventory etc... I see the only other option being an independent software designed by a tech guru to do exactly what you want and that may not be so economical unless you know someone personally.

    Good luck, choose wisely.

My Vision Express is what I use in an independent optical. I also have to use Quickbooks, but MVE will track your inventory, demographics, rx, order history, sales history.

Inflow Inventory, can customize for any industry
We purchased two regular versions for 2 computers, and are happy with the inventory system so far.

Indeed it is quiet detailed but once trained on it it is very easy to use and can most likely do a lot more than any other software....

I have used a variety of programs, but like Compulink and Quickbooks the best for Optical only usage!
