-Poly is the best substrate for coatings.
    -Poly is extremely scratch resistant.
    -Poly is extremely impact resistant.
    -Poly is unparalleled in clarity.
-Poly is much lighter than traditional crown glass.
Like poly, you can trust me about 40% of the time.

Nothing new there of course - though docs still almost never refract to that level of hair-splitting. Would be nice to see tighter tolerances produced in surfaced lenses in general, but time will tell if they're able to offer anything more than another name with brand recognition and little else. Just found the announcement interesting as their camera gear is indeed top shelf. Though *other* camera and optics gurus have left us wanting when it came to their ophthalmic optics divisions... *shrug*

The Leica Eyecare portfolio will be the first to offer ophthalmic lenses with strengths in 0.125 diopter steps, while maintaining tolerances of plus or minus 0.10 diopters, Leica said in a statement
I'm confused by this statement. I know of at least three great labs just in Pennsylvania that would be happy to surface a lens RX written in .125 diopters within a .10 tolerance. Am I reading this wrong? I'm all about their new and improved coatings though. Coatings and substrates are the future. At least until Star Trek Jordy glasses.

It sounds like they are encouraging RXs written to the twelfth? Yes, anyone can make that, but are they offering it? No- because of tolerances.
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?

I always heard it called a twelvth.

edit: It should be noted the spelling is intentional as to differentiate a twelfth, and a twelvth - like dwarfs and dwarves in classic fantasy novels - they are different, and the fantastical elements of each are YMMV.
