6/8 BC with glass

Recently been having a bunch of farmers come in looking to get a wrapped sunglass frame, 6 and 8 BC, but only want glass. I talked to them about trivex with an AR but they are not interested. They rather go without than get some sort of plastic. Anyone had any good success with a lab that can do polarized glass with that much BC. Our labs won't even entertain the idea of doing glass with such a high BC.

Wrapped frames and glass lenses only really go together with thin plano lenses. Rx lenses - in glass - in wrap frames do not work well or actually at all due to the small lens diameter offered in most glass blanks. Couple that with the many wrap frame styles (especially zyl) that require a step bevel / specialty bevel or second lens shape and the hide a bevel glass edger wheel cannot produce.

Another option are the Leader frames by hilco, they have an insert that changes the 8 base wrap to a 4 base, but still maintain the "wrap" profile. Could be a solution.

Ours won't, either. Just as Plausible referenced, many zyl and nylon wrap frames require step bevels for proper fit. Some metals do, as well. Our wet edger that does have step bevel capabilities will not cut glass. I'm not sure if there is a lab out there that does have that ability, short of hand edging the step.

I can understand why farmers would rather have glass, primarily due to the scratch resistance, but this is an uphill battle for them. You can always select a frame with a 6B lens form and tweak the bridge to have it wrap around the face a bit. Not a true wrap, but may do the trick.

We can do a limited shelf bevel on glass, but a lot of it is going to come down to the specific frame and Rx to get it to fit.
