    Looking for super-hip wood frames

Hey y'all, we have a patient who's into out-there and stylish frames, and he's looking for something resembling these: http://www.brixpicks.com/wp-content/...011/03/dr5.jpg

However, there's a catch: he's looking for them in a bone/ivory color, or if a wood option is available, that would be even better. It would need to be all the same material, no mixing with metals for temples or eyewire.

Looking forward to seeing some great suggestions, I'm sure y'all have an idea or two to throw my way

Not sure if they are 'hip' enough, but this is my wood supplier:

You could also check with Proof:

You state metal specifically. What about cotton acetate temples, or a cotton acetate front with wooden temples?

I am a big fan of David Green Eyewear and I think that some of them might pique your patient's interest.

http://www.greeneyewear.com/product-...id-green-wood/ is an acetate front with wooden temples and http://www.greeneyewear.com/product-...sunnies-range/ is the opposite.

Proof frames fall apart with nothing more than a sideways glance. They're a disaster sadly. We've had better luck with Shwood out of Portland - though they have a fairly limited selection of full wood models.

That's disappointing but good to know. I've been interested in Proof since they came out but DJ meets all our wood needs with an unbeatable price.

Thanks for the recommendations so far! I think, from interacting with the patient, they're interested mostly in the shape first and then color second, which is good since white wood is probably not going to be an option based on what I've seen so far. I showed him the Tory Burch TY2074 (these: http://cdn.lensesrx.com/35807-121008...ye-glasses.jpg) which he loved, but if we can find something a bit "more" then that'll be the winning bet.

Do they have to actually be wood, or can they just look like wood? Legre has some really interesting wood-grain plastic options. Much more durable and much easier to work with.

Looks like the frames in the picture > looks like they're made of wood > made of wood, in that order.

I'm loving the designs here as well and I think my patient will too -- so yeah, same question, anyone have real-world experience with this line?

I have a pair and so does my son. Quality and durability are excellent. Rep is awesome as well. Melodie Annis is the rep.

What is it like working with wood? What lens materials do you require? Can you adjust them at all? If they can't be adjusted does it require a large selection so you can find "the perfect fit" for any head out there? Are they more of a PITA than they are worth?

I would suggest that you peruse the website, especially the "Tailor" tab. Neither mine nor my son's did not need adjusting. However, I'm a lab rep/licensed optician. I don't work with them every day.

Yes, a major pain in the rear....way more trouble than they are worth.....much better to go with a "woodlook" acetate - I know ProDesign used to make some.....

I always make sure they are well fit because of the lack of adjusting. Because there is no adjusting to be done, I actually find them super easy to dispense. Never had any issues with lens limitations, though we haven't tried adding any extra strong RXs yet. CR39 works just fine for the Daniel James line.

If you're looking for wood frames than you will find nothing better than Rolf. They make 100% wood-frames (yes, even the hinges!) and are a combination of different types of wood (eucalyptus, maple, walnut, macassarbony, etc.). Only downside is that they are limited in terms of adjustmentsand require a special heatgun (temps of 650F). Lenses are mounted by cutting a groove and securing inside the frame by pulling a silicone liner through the top groove.
Feb31st had nice options in terms of colors but are "cheap" looking in terms of wood. I liken it to plywood as the layers of glued wood are extremely obvious.

Do they treat their wood with any form of sealant? I know that many hardwoods have oils that can cause some rather...dramatic..allergic reactions to certain people's skin.
