    Interesting to note

    Interesting to note that my net cost for SV Plastic surfaced with Transitions 7 is lower from my lab (with 2 year SRC warranty) than it is from from Essilor owned RX Club (Essilor owns transitions and RX Club do not give any kind of a scratch resistant warranty).

    Regards,

    Redhot Jumper warranty replacement is calculated into selling prices ...........................

    Usually any warranty replacement is calculated into selling prices at any levels.

    I f there is no warranty you can sell at better pricing and make more profits with less work.

    Chris;

    I posted the above because the exact opposite is happening in this instance.

    It looks like the lab is absorbing it.

    When I had my lab for 20 years there was no warranties...........either the job was perfect or it had to be redone, but there was never any profits as there was in the retail.

    Chris, the expectations of today's consumers are ridiculous to say the least. Independent ECP's tolerate their crap every day in order to survive.

    Combine that with the current market place where the small companies/vendors are being run out or gobbled up.

    ECP's should better support their small vendors as they are the ones that truly care about their customer's existence and longevity.

    Once the small companies are gone, the oligopoly begins and the service and warranties will be long vanished.

    Lab Insight you are right on ..............................

    However it was also the ECPs that built up this warranty business 20 - 30 years ago, and now it eats them up.

    Glass lenses used to break and was a daily revenue for ECPs to replace them, and then plastic lenses made there way in.

    Plastic lenses were cheaper, did not break but scratched. Then came additional income to coat them in house to make them scratch resistant. That was about as far you could go. These lenses did not scratch as fast as uncoated ones, but still scratched in due time.

    These days, with warranties, the ECP has to sell them at a price that covers the cost of replacing them, and pray and hope that for the warranty time limit the customer is not coming back for a replacement at no cost.
