Wave Who would want to buy stock prescription lenses

Hi, I'm new to the whole industry and still studying the structure of the supply chain. One thing I'm not sure is which part of the supply chain would want to order stock prescription lenses (in bulk or small amount)? Is it the optometrists, opticians, and ophthalmologists who buy them and let the lab to further cut and grind them? Or is it the labs themselves order the lenses and finish processing them and wait for the eye professional to buy? Or is it someone else?

Stock lenses could end up in anyone's lab. The real difference is between semi-finished and finished.

In my experience, Dr owned retail will order complete jobs from an outside lab and not have any equipment for edging. Non-Dr owned retail will tend to have a finished lab but maybe not surfacing. Then you have straight-up labs where all they do is make orders placed by retail contracts.

It is up to the individual companies, but orders placed to outside labs can be received complete (already mounted), cut (to fit the frame), or uncut (to be edged in house).
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?

If you have no local supplier or their prices are too high you may want to put in a few pair.

All of the above if there is an edger on site. FSV is cheaper overall if you take labor into account. It is also quicker to the patient.

It's none of my business what you do with your money, but it's sounds to me as though you know nothing about the optical business. You may have better luck pursuing a business that you are more familiar with. Thank me later.
