Our School has a new Director, Dr. Stanley Woo
The University of Waterloo School of Optometry & Vision Science is pleased to announce that Stanley Woo, OD, MS, MBA, FAAO joined the School on July 1st, 2017 as its next Director.
Each Canadian province is allotted a certain number of seats in 1st-year Optometry at University of Waterloo ... BC I believe gets only 2-3 seats which is unfair to Western newcomers to the field. I say up the capacity, and then see the cream rise to the top. We are after all a free-enterprise nation.
Ontario is on the verge of deregulation as is anyhow, and some companies are developing the latest automatic self refracting devices.
It has been discussed right here on OptiBoard.
UW operates in the jurisdiction of Ontario and acquires subsidies from the Ministry of Education (funded by Ontario taxpayers) to educate students. They have no obligation to educate students from other provinces, unless there are specific arrangements (financial) to do so. If BC wants more optometrists, they can exercise their right to open an optometry school in their province.
