Perhaps they can roll back the enrollment capacity per year and reduce the flooding that has occurred.

Each Canadian province is allotted a certain number of seats in 1st-year Optometry at University of Waterloo ... BC I believe gets only 2-3 seats which is unfair to Western newcomers to the field. I say up the capacity, and then see the cream rise to the top. We are after all a free-enterprise nation.

Ontario is currently flooded, which has caused the new young ones to starve.

New Ontario OD are starving?? Perfect time to collaborate with some established Ontario retail optical dispensaries that would love to have an OD on or near their premises.

Ontario is on the verge of deregulation as is anyhow, and some companies are developing the latest automatic self refracting devices.

UW operates in the jurisdiction of Ontario and acquires subsidies from the Ministry of Education (funded by Ontario taxpayers) to educate students. They have no obligation to educate students from other provinces, unless there are specific arrangements (financial) to do so. If BC wants more optometrists, they can exercise their right to open an optometry school in their province.
