    Here we go again .................................

The chain reaction is continuing at a much higher speed, only that HOYA is jumping at a late stage.

Next will be getting into online business and the retail end.

Do you really think so when their slogan is "The Ally of the Independent."?

Hoya owns a chain of retail optical stores in Japan called EyeCity. So there goes the validity to their slogan's authenticity.

Since they originate and are based out of Japan, that would be considered their testing ground. Why would their retail model stop with just Japan and not expand into other continents and countries?

Especially when as Chris says, they are always late to the plate and have a lot of ground to catch up on.

I know from experience that Hoya is the ally of the independent insofar that it gives them a morally superior slogan to throw around. They're the optical world equivalent of the pious, small-town busybody who goes around reminding everyone how good they are and how bad everyone else is, while secretly engaging in all the bad behavior he's always criticizing others for. If they'd get the *#&$ off of their high horse I might have some more respect for them. As it is, I don't think they have long; as others have pointed out, they've begun their acquisitions late in the game, when all of the worthwhile businesse have already been snatched up by Essilor; and that they do get their hands on will inevitably be ruined by the poor business practices and corporate culture that have put them into this position in the first place.

Blue Jumper Hoya might be on the Essilor list ................

Hoya could probably be next in the takeover wave by Essilor if Governments let them do it.

They could not merge Rodenstock 2-3 years ago because of European Competition laws, so it got sold to some other interests.

Zeiss is still independent and probably will stay that way.

As Hoya's portfolio of revenue streams are very diverse, the life care segment could very easily be sold off to the glee of shareholders.

Blue Jumper We will see what happens in the politics of the optical trade. ......................

We will see what happens in the politics of the optical trade. In the meantime the chains are growing in Canada and the independent opticians are getting old and are selling out to the chains.

I am still seeing that Essilor/Luxottica will be the overall winner of this battle ground. From manufacturing to retail in stores and internet.

Agree...because like it or not, they have a solid business growth strategy which encompasses areas of opportunity that most dare not to indulge.
