    Eyeglasses on TV

Just an observation. Jump in if you would like

I have always been fascinated with the TV personalities and their choice of glasses. Often times I wonder, and to my family's chagrin, out loud. I'm sure that I am not the only one that thinks, Who the F fitted those glasses? You know what I mean.

I agree lensmanmd! There is a commercial out there about getting medical help of some sort, and the talking head is wearing metal frames that bisect his eye - why someone would not ask him to at least push the glasses up on his nose is beyond me!

I always point out bad adjustments to my wife when we watch TV.

She just rolls her eyes, and says, "AAAAanyway..."

Edward Snowden has a nosepad arm broken off of his filthy glasses in every file photo I've ever seen. All politics aside, the slovenliness implied by that image colors every judgment I make about him or his actions.

To be fair he is stranded in Russia, but you'd think someone would be like, "Ed, seriously, lets go to Kremlincrafters."

Yes! What's-his-name..on the Capitol One commercials with the round glasses too small for his head. The other occupational hazard is noticing actors whose eyes don't track together correctly. Kiera Knightly drives me nuts for that reason.

News broadcasters, Local, National and Sportscasters who are on Tv frequently have me perplexed about this particular subject quite often.

memo to self- Contact my senator Elizabeth Warren for a consult. I may not be able to change her drilled rimless look but maybe, just maybe, I can change her lens shape to stop her habit of looking over the top of the lenses!

"love seeing the ones where peoples eyebrows are inside the lens"

Whenever I have a patient choosing glasses that go that high, I tell them that eyebrows can't see, so they don't need glasses.

Hey now some of us have permanently furrowed brows and deep set eyes we can't help it!

TV is non stop - but you know you have a problem when you can't enjoy a meal out because the person at the table next to you has incredibly ill fitting spectacles. I have a problem.

Kills me to see millionaires on TV with no A/R on their specs, and those who work in front of the camera who wear specs regularly with no A/R.

All I can say is "Hollywood has a fascinating approach to eyeglasses" and I guess, most celebrities are being paid to wear those beautiful eye glasses.

I have a small percentage of patients who get AR (even the best) and do not want it on future pairs. To hard to keep clean is the most common reason. For them reflections hiding the smudges outweighs the better vision.

That is the reason why some of my patients that had it before and decide not to get it again. I personally have it... I wear my glasses pretty much all the time because of horrible dry eye. I clean my glasses every day. They are not that dirty. Yes, they smudge, but not so bad that I wouldn't get the coating again. Most of those patients complain that they have to clean their glasses....period. I don't get it. Is it that big a deal to clean them once every so often?

YMMV, but I saw a phenomenon in which the newer, "better" ARs were either just as smudge-prone as the old school ARs or even slightly worse. Anyone else experience this, or did we get hit with a bad batch/lab?

The newer ARs have improved in terms of reflectivity. Many are in the 1-1.5% range, and thusly will tend to show smudges. However, the hydro is so much better now that cleaning them is much easier. Lenses have always had smudges, reflections make them less noticeable. It's all about educating the consumer.

Its also not so much an "Improved" hydro/oeleo resistant coating - Hell Chris Ryser spray on hydro/oleo is pretty darn good. The difference between Avance and Alize and Easy (or whatever ARs you want to compare) is HOW long they stay that way.

I've seen some pretty cleanable ARs from some big box stores, but 6 months to a year later they are terrible.
