What frames are you using for High RX these days?

And I'm not talking -12.00 here or +8.00

I'm talking +12 or more, -20.00 with a couple diopters of cyl?

Men, Women, unisex - What are you using that limits decentration and has a decent bevel? Its always a mad scramble to make these work - and my special box of discontinued frames that work is tapped.

I need styles people! Thanks in advance.

    -Ian

The last Rx we did in that range was about a -20.00 with prism. It went into a tiny Ovvo frame and were double concave lens. Patient was super happy, while the lab was sooo glad to get it out the door and prayed for no redos. I have photos, but not on this computer- I'll add them if I remember
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?

Do you remember the frame style? I really need a box of frames to pull out for these situations.

(I always take pictures also lol)

    Ovvo 2753 it's a 46-17, 27 B, 48 ED

They do have smaller frames and more rounded styles that would be easier to work with.

Certainly! I wouldn't call this the best option for high Rx (especially plus Rx) but that lens isn't going anywhere once inserted- therefore great for a kid. They have never come back through our doors so I can only assume all has gone well. I tend to lean towards more rounded shapes and standard metal or titanium in general.

    Ian,

I have a couple of very high teen RXs in this acetate frame. Comes with adjustable nose pads or a moderately narrow keyhole bridge. 44x35 19dbl.

Scott Harris Vintage #35 is 44x29 22 dbl. The material is probably monel.

Both will accept up to about 12mm of temporal thickness with a standard bevel placement, that is, the temple will close at this level of thickness w/o rolling or laying back the bevel.

I wish there were more 40mm to 44mm with the above characteristics available from the mainstream manufacturers. I keep seeing a lot of trendy stuff, but very little that's functional.

    Hope this helps,

+1 For the scott harris vintage frames. We did a +12 with 7D Base in prism in the Vintage-35 and the patient loved them.

Was just going to say the SH Vintage V-17, 29 or 36 can all work well. Although I've had some (thankfully rare) issues with the SH Vin saddle bridge frames hurting sensitive patients, and one who had a reaction to whatever the coating is they use over the metal that caused an open sore to develop. I've worn my own V-17 for years with no issues however.
