    X-Ray - Radiation lenses

Can you get Plano lenses for a radiation tech to protect from radiation and x-rays WITHOUT being in a safety frame? Are these lenses only in glass? They were asking for lead free????

Don't see the point in asking for lead free. Its not like the lead in the lens is a danger once its part of a lens.

As far as I know the lead is what blocks it. Don't eat the lenses and they should be fine.

You aren't going to get them too thin, as you need a certain thickness to get enough shielding, depending on what type of radiation they're working with.

You can get them in free-form as well.

Best bet is to follow the personal protective equipment requirements set forth by the manufacturer of the equipment and found in the operations manual. In fact, its the only bet.

    Reviving old thread....
Anyone know of a lab that might be able to provide Rx lenses that would protect from radiation?

Sorry but I don't understand the meaning of the question, glasses to stop X-rays... and the rest of the body?
however very dense materials are needed, even using lead (d>11) a thickness of a few centimeters is needed to screen efficiently.
In general the density and thickness needed for an X-ray filter is so high that it can never be applied in lens optics
    this is physics

I used to manufacture x ray shielding glasses in Plano and Rx. Half were made on a one time basis for whoever wanted them the other half went to a company that sold x ray equipment and supplies called Atomic Products Center Moriches NY Contact them they might still have the offering.

To be used with a thyroid shield and lead apron.

Glasses just need to be thick enough to reduce the risk of developing cataracts.

The glasses we made were in a specific frame designed for this purpose that had a Plano lens on the side in addition to the Rx Or Plano in the front.
