    Optiboard Hall of Fame

    We really need this.

I was reading the "AR crazing" thread and realized how full of good information it was.

There are dozens or hundreds of threads that are HOF-worthy.

Why don't we petition El Steverino to make a sticky thread called "Optiboard Hall of Fame" and then individuals can post quick summaries of their favorite threads, and then the Optiboard link?

    LET'S GET IT DONE!

(I would nominate AR crazing thread. And probably all the Borysko threads, but that wouldn't be the spirit of the HOF.)

Please post a +1, so it's like signing a petition.

How about a "Boy, that escalated quickly-type" OHOF...

This will make a great collection of fleshed out topics and prime resources.

    Popping the bubble...

Had a similar idea years ago to manage Tips on dispensing but Steve felt it was not practical.

I'd see a HOF quickly turning into pages and pages that just send you to the search box anyway.

No, it wouldn't be the same.

"Search" feature is too dependent on certain key terms.

The best threads discuss wider-ranging issues.

Sorry drk, but have to agree with Uncle Fester on this one...the search box fills this need best.....but, I would be curious for a link the AR crazing thread you mentioned.

So we don't need this because we have the search function, but you can't find the ar crazing thread he is talking about by usuing the search function? It has to be one or the other.

My suggestion if this were to ever happen would be to create a whole new forum with Title "HOF threads" under the Optical Forums heading. This way the search function could be limited in advanced search to only that forum and the "best" thread concerning the searched topic could be easily found. Content of the new forum would have to be decided upon by board leaders or poll vote.

The idea of a summary is what I think makes it worth setting up. If you can get the gist of what a topic with 5 pages leads to, it will separate it from just searching.

My take was that the content proposed for a HOF was an excellent read without HAVING to wade through the Search. Finding the 'gems' through Search can be quite a slog... True, trying to replace "Search" through a thread directory isn't on the table--but that really wasn't the purpose of the suggestion. So a HOF thread will have topical holes...that's what'll make it fun to add to. Doesn't have to be library science project. Can it get so big it loses its appeal? Sure. If that comes to pass, (or the quality of links added declines so badly it depresses DrK,) then it can be de-stickied, can't it?

I still vote yes, since it might be randomly handy...and even more importantly it'll just be fun to read.

    [edit:]

Not to say I'm opposed to Quince's suggestions in the slightest--I think something like that would be even handier!

Thank you Doctor K, for a brilliant idea, and Thanks Steve for instantly initiating it.

So many times a discussion has turned to something else than the original title or theme, and interesting or valuable posts have been made that nobody remembers where they could be found.

As in the quote the post "AR crazing" is originally "Weather and AR" and the full meaning of the advice would get lost as it had deviated from the original title.
