The other night I had a wild crazy idea and wanted to bounce the idea off a couple people in the field. I currently work at a big box that pays me very well, but the hours are brutal, and typical big box micromanaging happens every day, and is starting to get old. We currently have a sublease doctor that is nothing short of awesome. She has an established business (they don't sell glasses or contacts) but I feel like we are on the same page as far as customer care (customers vision first, crazy sales goals second) Our business is more than likely the biggest in town, and I am their top player. Our independent Optical's here are severely lacking in competent opticians (based on heresay and personal interactions). I feel like the both of us have a fairly good size customer base that come specifically to see us. I always hear of optometrists buying an office of a retiring optometrist, or starting a business, but not so much optician/optometrist combo. Does anyone have any experience proposing a business idea, or becoming a business partner with an optometrist? I like what I do, but to stay in the business and progress, I wouldn't stay with my company.
