Blue Jumper Probably my father learned optics with something similar in the old days.............

Very interesting presentation of that book, how to flip the pages forth and back. First time I have seen that one.

I'm always curious how to define the curvature of 6 base! Is there a formula to calculate? Let's say what is the highest point of a 6 base curve lens if the blank is 100 mm diameter? Thanks in advance!

Jerry, actually once upon a time there was, back in the 60,s when i worked for B@L, there was a formula that was derived for the 6 base meniscus lens. it was such a secret, at the time, that the formula and how they figured it out was locked up in a safe at downtown rochester, ny headquarters, i have never seen it or know what happened to it.

Do you mean plate height? This is the bulge or the height of a lens when measured from a flat surface. Essentially the sag plus the ET. Assuming a zero edge thickness, a 1.5 index, and a 100 mm blank your sag for a 6.00 BC will be 15.5 mm

Very cool. Amazing how easy it is to me working with lenses with cylinder power, and back then they were like gold - fragile, fragile gold!
