Trivex Less Prone To Fogging Up Than CR-39, Polycarb, 1.67, etc?

Has anyone heard this or know of this to be true? (That Trivex is less prone to fogging up, steaming-up, or condensation build-up than other lens materials.) The OD I work for has mentioned this a couple of times, but I've never questioned his source of information.

I don't think this is true. I've worn trivex before for years, always fogged up.

Surface coated mirrors tend to fog up faster than non coated surface. Could be that the surface of the lens is also smoother to attract more humidity.

Unlikely as the fogging properties are going to be according to the surface of the lens, and pretty much anything other than raw CR-39 is going to have SRC coat on it. So unless there is some radical difference in fogging properties between Trivex SRC and other SRCs (doubtful) they will fog the same.

Due to material alone, it's probably determined by the thermal conductivity (or specific heat) value for the material. I wouldn't think the plastics differ too much.

FWIW, no fogging except under extreme conditions (opening very hot oven door) with my Trivex and various premium anti-reflection coatings, maybe better than cr39 or 1.67, but similar to polycarbonate.

    Thermal conductivity for polycarbonate @23C (W m-1 K-1) 0.19-0.22. I couldn't find values for Trivex or 1.67.

    Hope this helps,

I think Robert's right (wow, big shocker).

I think it would have to do with some "heat capacity" of the lens material itself. Plastics are probably somewhat different, but I doubt it's like glass-to-plastic different.
