    *PLEASE HELP* need NCLE HELP

    Hi guys,

I've been a dispensing optician for 7 years at Costco. I love my job and want to advance in my career but I can't seem to pass the NCLE. I passed the ABO a few months ago. I do nothing with contacts at my job, so it makes it much harder to pass this test and I'm a terrible test taker to begin with.

I've used OTI training CDs/books and some online courses. Unfortunately, I live in Missouri which is a non-licensed state, so we don't have any classes offered locally.

ANY TEST PREP RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

    Thank you!

The best thing to do is find a friendly local OD who can tutor you, based on the the test format. Most opticians that don't really deal with CL's have a lot of difficulty with the NCLE. It would be fairly easy for an OD to coach you enough to do well on the test. Don't get discouraged I think that a surgical ophthalmologist would probably have trouble passing that for the same reasons, it's not something that they do on a routine basis.

I agree that you should find a mentor. My biggest advancement in my optical education came from simply upgrading my environment. I went from a discount store to a local small business. My first week with a crew that had built a huge competitor for the local LC with staff ranging in service from 10-20 years doubled my knowledge about the optical industry and inner workings.
Have I told you today how much I hate poly?
