Sola Access Lens Verification...help old grampy out.

Well, whipper-snappers, after my Vick's Vap-O-Rub my favorite thing in life is the Sola Access lens.

Sure, I've been fitting them for many a year, but some rootin'-tootin' lab manager has me hornswaggled.

He's tellin' me that the PRP dots on the verification mask should fit the distance PD and not the near PD.

I think he's smokin' that wacky terbaccy.

What sez you (about the verification mask showing the distance PD and not the NPD)?

Since the primary purpose of the lens is for near and intermediate it makes sense that near PD should be used for processing. So the PRP should reflect near PD measurement

It used to be the near PD. I doubt that that has changed. I've never fit one, and have never seen the template. Fitting cross should be on the prism reference/180 line. Fit 5mm below pupil.

+1.00 to +1.50 adds get a .75 degression, +1.75 to +2.50 = 1.25 degression. Degression extends above the primary gaze to a "distance" window that has about 50% of the add. Primary gaze has about 75% of the add. Full add at twenty degrees down with a with of 18mm, and more than 40mm wide at thirty degrees below the primary gaze (.50 DC limits).

Thanks. I find that lens gets me more trouble in processing than any other lens ever invented.

I'm going to try Shamir Workspace and get with the times.

I just fit my favorite doc in a pair of the IOT Workspace and she is beyond loving it. She wishes she had been refracting in them for years she said.

I've begun reccomending them as the #1 pair for emmatropish type people who want progressives because they are sick of taking off readers. It has been very, very successful.

The closest to the Access would be the Screen lens though, or the desktop for a little more room (I also use these a lot). Workspace is really almost overkill for people who are mostly stationary and just want wide vision channels.

Used this lens many, many times ... recently in fact. We're utilizing the Auto II Office mostly now, however. Oh, and some ID OfficeSpace.

Tallboy, IOT Office Reader (we call it the Workspace, too) does come in 3 flavors. The 1.3, which is the closest to the Access. The 2, which is my personal favorite when I'm working in the office (I'm wearing them now as I type). Then there is the multipurpose 4, which I recommend to those that make a living from giving presentations and seminars. Each gives a nice and wide intermediate and near, the 2 and 4 with a touch of distance, which the Access never gave. The only caveat is, the more distance provided in the design, the smaller the near becomes.

We have been producing the Workspace as a replacement for the Access for close to 3 years now with great success. Gone are the days of confused opticians transmitting the incorrect RX and the multiple callbacks and redos to get the Access right.
This makes it very simple for the opticians. Fit, measure and enter the RX as a traditional PAL (real distance/add and not a transposed version of the Rx), select the best working distance (1.3, 2, 4) and let the lab do the rest.

Bonus, we can create these in all materials, not just CR39 or Poly, and even Transitions for those who like to work outdoors. As for pricing, we charge the same for the Workspace as we did the Access.
