MEI EZ Fit or SatisLoh ES4?

    Quick question,

For a small to mid size lab (300 - 400 pairs/day), no automation, which would be a better ROI, taking parts, consumables, and efficiency in mind? The EZ Fit mills, the ES4 grinds. Both are fairly fast, will angle bevel, drill, polish, etc. We do not produce Oakley style interchangeable lenses, just the garden variety jobs, with some wraps here and there, so nothing fancy is needed. Step bevels, however is a must.

    Any thoughts? Thanks

Not really answering your question but I would invest in automation on the surfacing side first. Much quicker ROI but higher upfront investment of course.

That is in my 2 year plan. I need to fully amortize some surface equipment before embarking on that project. I do have a new edger (or 2) in my budget for 2017, however.

The EZ Fit drills from the front, is smaller, and has the option of block-free edging. That said, it's my impression (I was considering both machines) the Satisloh machine might handle that level of volume better.

I haven't used an ezFit (we have bispheras) but the blockless option helps save a lot of labor and potential errors.

Is there ever a problem with slipping -- Super Hydro-coated lenses twisting off-axis?

I haven't heard of one, but they use a vacuum instead of a pad. Since there's not so much a contact point as there is suction, there's less of an issue with how slippery something is.
