    Prentice's Who Was Prentice

I'm sure someone here knows the answer to this!

Who was the Prentice behind Prentice's Formula or Prentice's Rule?

Heck, someone here may be Prentice or even know Prentice!

    Thanks,
    John

Yeah, I knew Chucky P. He was a great guy. We used to go to the speakeasys together when we were teenagers. Ryser was 30 at the time, so he'd let us in.

Yep, successfully argued to the NY legislature that refraction was not a medical procedure but the bending of light. His *children* today (OD's) don't tend to hold that opinion.

He believed that a refraction was the equivalent of a shoe salesman using a Bannock Device.

Yes you can much to the discomfort of the customer. The rub is the conversion of its measurements into PD's. Most eye glass sales people are mathematically challenged although when you break out the old slide rule it impresses the customer.

SNAP!! Slide rule, not an abacus. Thanks Dick, now I know where I've been going wrong all these years. I've been employing the wrong calculating tool.

In general terms, optics is the science of vision and light. An optician is the person that assembles and dispenses eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct vision impairments, which are prescribed by ophthalmologists (a medical practitioner) and optometrists.

The optometry profession is defined by the World Council of Optometry (WCO) as follows:

“Optometry is a healthcare profession that is autonomous, educated, and regulated (licensed/registered), and optometrists are the primary healthcare practitioners of the eye and visual system who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.”

Generally optometry has emerged from optics, as the education of opticians has expanded to include clinical subjects and as their scope of practice has been enlarged as a consequence. Some opticians have become optometrists.
