    Santinelli vs Briot edgers

Briot is cheaper but is Santinelli better accuracy and longevity?

Santinelli sells superior machines. I don't know so much about the durability front, the ones I've been around do of course require maintenance and parts from time to time. The Briot will not produce the same quality of work, most Santinellis will have more sophisticated features.

However, you can buy two Briots for the price of a properly outfitted Santinelli setup. My Santinelli rep did not even pretend to act as if this wasn't the case. If you are going to keep things basic, the Briot is great. If you want to produce the best and have more options, fork the money over. Kinda like many of us ask our patients to.

I made the decision to stick with an older Santinelli instead of a more modern Briot. Maybe I miss out on some of the shelf beveling features modern edgers have but I am happy with what I have and can one day get that ME1200

Like I tell my patients: Cheap means two things. Santinelli makes the much better equipment.

I use both. And 7EXs. And an MEI. Each have pros and cons.
Instead of the the 1200, have you considered the Lexce? Great bang for the buck. Drills, steps, basic, great accuracy.
The Weco/Briot are great machines. Just as fast and as accurate as the Santinellis. Cost depends on the model and what you need them to do, which is why the Lexce may fit your needs and budget.
I bend light. That is what I do.

While the Briot is nice and less expensive for the more modern features, Santinelli hands down for reliability and lifespan. Every machine has pros and cons. And while I prefer a 7EX to anything else, that's just personal preference. I rarely have to crack open a Santinelli to fix something. Briot and Optronics, not so much.

I have an Alta XD with an Attitude blocker and a ME1000 with an ICE 1000. They're both great setups. I end up using the Alta for most of my nylor and rimless orders and the ME for most of the remainder. I also own a Huvitz Exxpert system. If I had to choose one out of the three, I would have to pick the Briot, though I haven't owned the Huvitz long enough to know how it will compare. While some of the Briot systems aren't so durable, the Alta is a heavy duty system that has been reliable for me. The Attitude blocker is the best of the three.

If we all had deep enough pockets, I think the way to go would be having multiple machines from different manufacturers for their different strengths.
