    Term: Fusion ???

Found this on an old ABO practice test.

    Fusion occurs in the ________.

    Ring a bell with anyone?

Google ain't doing much for me.

I recall something about the optic chiasma but I might be hallucinating again...

    Choices on this question are:
    retina
    optic nerve
    brain
    cornea

With brain being indicated as correct.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

    It's brain. Visual cortex, actually.

It means "binocular fusion" which is a form of perception. Depth perception, to be exact. "Perception is not in the eye of the beholder, it's in the brain of the beholder". Ha.

You are talking about the wiring...Yes, at the chiasm the wires from the eyes begin to mix. But that's not what they're getting at. Capice?

Like he said, the optic chiasm is found in the brain and is the intersecting point where the optic nerves transfer from R to L and L to R to each respective hemispheres.

Err, now ya gone und dun made me look it up. Well according to my A and P book it describes it as, below the brain, part of the brain located below the hypothalamus. Look here Doc, even the A and P book is ambiguous. Connected to the brain stem quantifies as, "the brain", as this is command central for most of us opticians. Water hot, burn. Water cold, not burn. Beer good, drink more. Seeing lenses don't work, go back and see beer.

As per the original question the answer is "The Brain", that one question was in three different source books for my abo studies last year.

I believe that's the same lab mouse Essilor used to conduct their blue light experiment on. Note the increase in both the Frontal and Temporal Lobes of the brain probably compensating for a small optic chiasm.

He does sport a rather narrow PD doesn't he. And I didn't even need a fancy machine to work that out! ;)

I wonder Brian, do you hypothesize the narrowing of the IPD makes the beer look bigger or taste better. Just don't say, less filling. Cheers

I've no idea what the angular size might be shifted towards. All I know is that my depth perception best NOT get in the way of me and my pint! :D Happy 4th!

The answer is self-evident, "Brain" (using that as an all encompassing term, as in the answer for the question) is the first place where the signals from both eyes meet. You can't fuse things together without both items that need to be fused together being present. All the other answers, there is no possible way the data needing to be fused could meet.
