I seem to find different answers on whether it's ok to post as a consumer here, so I thought I would give it a shot.
I'm getting rimless glasses, and have a prescription of -6.25 (same in both eyes), no astigmatism, single vision lenses.
My primary concern is being able to see as well as possible. I don't care about lens thickness for any aesthetic reasons.
The eye doctor that did my exam told me that I shouldn't go above 1.67 index lenses, because higher index lenses had worse distortion / artifacts. She didn't really go into it, but was very firm that 1.67 was the highest that had good visual quality.
Unfortunately her clinic had a small frame selection, only 1 of the frames was the right size for my head, and it looks incredibly ugly on me, so I had to go somewhere else for the actual glasses.
I found rimless frames that are the right size and look good at a new place.
At the new place, the girl doing the glasses claimed that 1.74 index lenses were "clearer" than 1.67. However, she seemed a little less certain about it after realizing I didn't have insurance and was paying for the whole thing myself. Money isn't an issue for me really though - my main issue is just with being able to see for the computer work I do as well as possible (then not looking ugly doing it).
Does anyone have an opinion or experience on if 1.74 would give better or worse vision than 1.67? The additional money is no problem, I don't care about which one looks thinner either, just about which one would be the best for seeing for work.
