Advancing to the advanced ABO

I have been ABO certified but now I am curious about taking the Advance certification. I was wondering if anybody could provide any idea for good study material. i have System for Ophthalmic Dispensing but I find it covers to much material and would like to focus on things for the test. Would working in a lab help me pass? I only have dispensing experience but I would be willing to work part time in a lab if it would increase my chances of success.

A giant YES on lab experience helps. Also get Optical Formulas Tutorial (Stoner, Perkins, Ferguson). The National Academy of opticianry sells the Advanced Opticians Tutorial By Drake and others (it's specifically aimed for those taking the AC test) I think they have a 2nd edition out now.

Don't let the 2% pass rate scare you. If you study and know your chops, you'll do fine. Good Luck!

This book should cover everything on the test, it is made for the test.

Thanks for this post, I'm thinking the same thing. Of course I need to retake my ABO but I'm pretty sure a review of the odd ball stuff would be enough to pass

I noticed that their are books related to the Advanced Optician Tutorial. Mirrors, lense power and so on. Are those covered in the book itself?

The book is with an employee studying for it, I don't have it next to me it's, If it's on the ABO-AC it's in this book.

The ABO booth was next to the NAO booth in Atlanta and I Was told that in a way without them favoring 1 company over another by the ABO rep.

I am also interested in doing this. Once my first year of being a co-owner of the optical I work at is over, my next goal is to get the AC. dredging up an oldish thread with some more questions...

Does the test have a written as well as practical? Anyone have a copy of the study guide they're willing to sell? its a little too rich for my wallet right meow

is it beneficial to go for the NCLE beforehand or should i jump right into the ABO advanced?
