I have a Marco Lensmeter model 101. I need to get it re-calibrated or re-conditioned it. Someone wants to charge me $$$$ tons of money. Is there anyone that could send me some information on who would be able to do it or possibly if it's able to be done by myself. Any help would be great.
There's a Chinese knock off sold on eBay by a seller in Atlanta for $600, It works perfectly.
I got disgusted trying to find someone to calibrate mine and not doing it to my expectations.
Sell it for $400 an buy a new one for $200 more.
Look for a old AO 603 or a 12603 or a Model 70 Vertometer. Those machines used are better then what is sold as new today.
Anything specific wrong with it?
You can check the calibration with trial lenses.
Most calibration problems are the result of the eyepiece not being properly focused.
Since the axis wheel is directly connected to the target, the likelyhood of the instrument being off axis is unlikely.
Most cleaning can be done by cleaning the eyepeice lens, do not remove the eyepeice, just wipe it off, Loosen the three screws that hold the cover on, remove the cover, wipe off the target, replace the cover. Taking the entire instrument apart to clean it is likely to cause more problems then you may correct.
To check the marker, assuming you do not have access to a Younger Gaugemaster, get a cylinder lens, find an axis, center and mark the lens.
Revolve the lens 180º, center and mark the lens again, you should see three dots. If you see three pairs of two dots, then the offset between the two dots is twice the actual error of the marker, revolving the lens 180º will double any existing error.
Centering the target will be another lesson.
