    Weco E3 vs other

Anybody have feedback on the Weco E3 edging system? I'm looking at starting a new finishing lab in the clinic so if anybody has comments on this edger or something similar that would be great. I'd need something with a small footprint, easy to use, and enough features that I wouldn't have to send out too many jobs. Thanks!

I use an E3 on a daily basis. Even used the it's predecessor in Briot form. We looked at new ones at VEE and ours still has the best bang for the buck.
Let me know what specific question you have and I'll do my best to answer.

Did you find the E3 easy to learn how to use? My staff has never edged lenses and while I used to work in a lab that was 15 years ago! Also, do you find the E3 to lack features that you make you wish you'd have a more high end edger like the E6 or similar? We have a fairly small space so noise is a bit of a concern. Does the E3 contain the sound pretty well or would you recommend an isolated area to have the edger located in?

Sylter, check out a mei ez fit edger, it's a smaller self contained unit on wheels that can edge a large variety of frame styles. small footprint: CHECK, easy to use: CHECK, and enough features that you wouldn't have to send out too many jobs: CHECK.

The EZ Fit looks great but I'm assuming a much higher price for the edger itself along with a need for a tracer and blocker.

Like anything there are lots of options available, you just have to do your research and find out what edging system will work best for you.

Basic Santinelli machine is amazing and worth checking out as an option. Easy to use and work is perfect.

Easy to use, yes. The most challenging part is remembering what all the different icons designate. It is worth having a tech come out and give you a breakdown on what it will and won't do. It is pretty forgiving for the novice, it's hard to have a major catastrophe.
For the price it has all the features we really need. I've spent time with the E.5 and it's a damn nice system but for a small finish lab it (E.3) does what we want. We don't edge high wrap much, nor do we bother with shelfing.
It's pretty darn quiet, for an edger. We have an old TopCon that we call our 'Tank'. Compared the E.3 is much quieter. It does get a bit louder with trivex and some polys. I wouldn't have it out on the floor, though. We have it on the other side of a floor to ceiling wall but that is open on either end for passage to the sales floor. Our dispense tables are about 12 to 15 feet from that wall we don't have any trouble talking with pt. while it's doing it's thing.
Like I mentioned we looked at VEE and while there are other edgers that do more and are just down right awesome, we can't justify the cost over what we already have with the E.3
It's not without faults but once you start pushing it's limits, it's time to make that a 'complete' job for your big lab.
Hope that helps, let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks for all of your input! The noise factor is certainly important as well in a smaller space. Any issues with the high index smell or do you have a ventilation system rigged up?

High index can stink up the place, especially considering our layout and open area. We don't have a ventilation system here but I did play around with a couple at another office and they truely did help.
I have a db meter on my phone, I'll play around and get a couple readings to share in the near future.

Thanks for the feedback! Regarding your high index smells, have you considered running your E.3 with our airMAX Air Purifier?

We had that on the E.5 at a previous office, worked well, once it was set up properly :-D

PS We don't have any more room for the filter in my current office. We manage the smell well enough for now.

Nothing is quieter than the Santinelli, moreover, the design is time tested; If you'd like to see one, just reach out

Don is right the Santinelli's are impressive! We would have one in the office if the price was right. Coburn has one I call the Darth Vader model ... gloss black and mean looking!
