    Pupillometer

I am considering buying an Optisource Pupilometer or an Essilor Pupilometer. Can anyone give me advice as to which one is best and if the Optisource one is good-- I cheaped out the first time and now my readings are inaccurate. I want to make sure I get a really good one.
Thanks for any input. There is about $200 difference between the two.

We sell a very good one and it also measures Vertex. Accurate to +/- 0.25 mm. Thirty day money back Guarantee and I give fellow OptiBoarders a 10% discount. Can be seen on line at www.superoptical.com. Call me so I can make sure you get the 10% 800-543-7376. Have sold hundreds and not one complaint or return.

The new Essilor ones are made in China and really junky. I got one from Essilor and returned it because there was a loose piece inside the housing. At first they were only going to repair it--despite the fact that it was brand new & full price. Luckily I had paid by credit card so I was able to make them take it back. If I'd paid by check, I'd have been screwed. I'm still using my 30 year old made-in-France Essilor pupilometer and it works perfectly although Essilor refused to do a minor repair on it. The superb Harry Chilling fixed it for me.

My advice is buy anything except Essilor!

Interesting. I am also considering going really old school and just using a pd stick. Any opinions on using a PD stick?

OptiSource is also an Essilor Company as far as I learned so it might be the same or the same source.

    It's just me :) owner/operator/only optician
Yes, I have trouble holding the pd stick and reading it accurately, too.
Are all pupilometers made in China, now? Do you or does anyone have any ideas about calibrating your own pupilometer/checking its calibration?

To my knowledge they are all made in China. You can put a ruler in front and at least see if the total is correct but that would not tell you if each side was. Some units, ours included has reference marks on each side to tell if correct. If wrong you would have to open it up, don't know of any with external calibration.

You could always get a vintage pupillometer that has been completely refurbished. Those are solid as a rock.
