Rodenstock Purelife (glass) or other Hi-Index Glass Progs..

    Hello!

We have a patient who has lost his glasses and is looking to get a new pair. He is determined to have a hi-index glass lens if possible, and will need progressives. Originally we had planned to go with the 1.8 Essilor Comfort, however our lab has informed me these lenses have now been discontinued. They are suggesting the 1.8 Rodenstock Pure Life. Unfortunately, this is a lens I know absolutely nothing about.

Does anyone have any experience with this lens? Is there anything else you could compare it to? Any other 1.8 glass progressives that you know of that are good?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks :)

I am not sure if Plastic Plus does glass but FEA in Pennsylvania is the only US lab that does Free Form glass.
When you only have one choice the flavor is not so important.

Not to nitpick but I thought the Comfort was 1.60 glass not 1.80 glass. Other progressive I remember in 1.6 glass are the Shamir Genesis , the Vision Ease Outlook, and the Essilor Natural. However, if the Comfort is not available I can't imagine the Natural is either. I looked at both Shamir's and Vision Ease's website. The Genesis is down to 3 materials (1.50, Trivex, and Glass), so I'm guessing they're phasing out this lens. As for the Outlook, it is still listed as coming in 1.6 glass. I have not used either the Genesis or Outlook in glass, but have used both of them in Poly and had good results with them. As for the Crownview I have yet to order it, but I seem to remember it comes in some hi index glass indicies.

I would try Zeiss. They offer Zeiss Individual and GT2 in 1.6 or 1.8 index...............

Our lab told me the Comfort is still available in 1.6 glass, and it looks like it was at some time available in 1.8 glass as well.. If he can't get 1.8 glass he'll probably go with a 1.74 plastic as opposed to a lower index glass.

Thanks for the advice.. I still haven't been able to find any good reviews of the Rodenstock Pure life, so I'm still unsure of what to do! :\
