    Windows ME

My Windows ME suddenly has forgotten my password to my mindspring email. I used to just have to type like one letter and then it would prompt me to click on the existing password. At some point way back when I first got my email, it asked me if I wanted it to remember my password. I said yes. Not it wont even ask me that. I have to type everything every time I go in. Which is not a HUGE problem but why is this? Windows ME isnt talking to ME? (I knew I should have bought a MAC)

    Please Please

    Night Train,
Please do your self a favor and lose Windows Me, I did about a year ago and upgraded to Xp. So far it has been as stable as a horse, unlike when I had Me. Even from Microsoft the impression that I get, is Me is the "red headed step-child".

Buy a Mac if you are doing alot of video, audio or graphic intensive projects, they are as stable as a rock. I stick to my PC because I like to take it apart every 3 months ;) .

    I agree with Jedi.
All the windows 95 98 98Se and ME updates ever did was stack themselves on top of each other. None of them were ever a stand alone product.............just upgrades. Which left the pc and the owner at the mercy of the software to decide what windows version to run while carrying out a task.3 or 4 different versions of software....... to complete one task? Need i say more. Get XP PRO.:D

    P.S. Don't bother with a Mac

I would be wary of upgrading to XP from ME I did and it screwed everything up so now have a copy of XP Pro gathering dust.
Xp seems fine with a clean install but is prone to problems when you upgrade.:drop:

Yes indeed...............great point. I learned that the hard way myself :hammer: Since then i have only done clean installs with XP. And on a second note checking the device compatability list is enough to drive anyone up a wall. That to me is the biggest problem with XP ........the lack of device drivers. But still so far it seems to be the most stable os since the win 2000 kernel. BTW how have you been..........?

    ME to XP

Just a note to say that in the documentation I received with my copy of XP, it says that upgrading to XP from ME is NOT recommended...Now I see why...It is strange but as mentioned earlier it does seem that ME is that red-headed step child...

I love XP..had a few games I had to find patches for, but I love the ease of setting up accounts, being able to have different internet settings for each account..and the stability... Had it running almost non-stop since OCT and only one lock up, and that was an issue with a different program.

I have ME on my lap top and XP on our two computers at home.

I dislike XP greatly because of all the error reports and no responsiveness when using the internet.

I love my ME on my lap top. It is more stable than 98. I have had no problems at all. (cross my fingers) I attribute this to not using it for internet and e-mail. I use it everyday for work and also presenting CE. I will not upgrade it to XP.

    Bev,

I just got a new laptop, and have XP and talk about the error reports. I used it for the first time last week for presentations and duh.... here they came. I've also had to spend lots of time this past week at the hospital with my Dad, and it keeps on happening. I am beginning to think I want to go back to my 5 1/2 year old Compac. It only has Windows 95, but I DO at least have MS 2000 on it. It just runs really slow, and I kept worrying about it completely crashing during a presentation, but it wouldn't be any worse that last week. I also noticed that in almost every course that I attended, the same problems occured with the other speaker's laptops. In each case they were using XP. I use a two year Gateway PC most of the time and haven't upgraded becuase of concerns with stuff....

    Oh well.

Did you know that in XP 20 of bandwidth is reserved for microsoft.......
To regain this chuck of your bandwidth.. Try this
Did you know that Windows XP Quality of Service function (QoS) reserves up to 20% of the available bandwidth - even when you have disabled Qos in the network settings. To restore the full bandwith to all settings follow below :

    Log on as administrator.

Start 'Run' and type in "gpedit.msc" - the Group Policy window will open.

In the right window expand the "Computer Configuration" branch (double click).

    Expand the "Administrative Templates" branch.

    Expand the "Networks" branch.

In the left window where the file tree is highlight or select the "QoS Packet Scheduler"

In the right window double click "limit reservable bandwith" setting. This will bring up the properties window for this function.

On the settings tab select "enable".

Where it says "Bandwidth limit %" - change to 0 and click apply.

    Exit gpedit.msc.

You'll need to reboot for change to take effect.
    Usual disclaimer applies....
If it screws your puter up..Its not my fault....

    Diane,
I use a Dell for my lap top with ME and no problems, 2.5 years!. One of my Doc's bought a Dell with XP that I also load material on. The other recently bought a HP with XP which I loaded some of the power points we do withe the same problem. Multiple eror reports.

I guess what I want to say is I keep my one specifically for things that are meaningful and do not connect to the net for anything else. I use Office Suite on all of them.

    Bev

P.S. I am wireless internet at home the past year and love it. 3 computers on line with no interruption. We have a tower with in 1/2 mile. Good even in bad weather.

    XP Pro

I use XP - Pro at home because I log into my NT server with it.
We use XP - Home Version at work because we require only a workgroup. Both work very well. I have no use for ME, had nothing but problems with it. My laptop has win98 2nd edition and that works well.
    My 2 cents worth.
