We currently have a Production Manager, 21st Century career opportunity at our Long Island City, NY location.
POSITION PURPOSE:
This position will oversee and direct the activities of the finishing and quality assurance department at 21st Century Optics. The manager will support a group of 20+ employees and supervisors, to ensure production goals are met, and standard procedures are being documented and followed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the daily production through the finishing and quality assurance department.
Manage projects to improve processes throughout the departments for the purpose of improving production and quality levels.
Work with lab management and HR to staff the finishing and surfacing, and departments.
Participate in the hiring, orientation and training of new finishing personnel.
Evaluate performance of employees, and discipline employees according to company policy as needed. Train finishing employees on new processes or to improve skills.
Maintain performance records on employees, routinely communicates performance to employees and coaches employees on methods and techniques for improving performance, including reviewing time records.
Schedule finishing, surfacing, and quality assurance employees work time and vacation time.
Maintain department budget including labor and equipment costs.
Assist in analyzing and recommending the purchase of new equipment for finishing, surfacing, and quality assurance departments as needed.
Analyze problems that arise and determine actions that will minimize the problems, decrease costs and/or improve yields, recommend changes to Production Manager and, upon approval, implements those changes.
Assure that all safety standards are maintained in the work area.
Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree or equivalent in a related field with proven on the job experience working in a production environment.
Previous optical experience in a lab production environment.
Previous experience leading a group of 10 or more employees.
Strong planning, communication and organizing skills a must.
Demonstrated competence in supervisory skills: motivating employees to meet performance goals, strong communication skills, comfortable with coaching and training individuals and teams.
Working knowledge of personal computers; user computer skills including use of e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet production goals.
Familiar with Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
