I discussed this with my brother about 15 years ago. The sensors and processor were doable at that time, with plenty of military applications. Most of that is now off-the-shelve technology. The lens is another matter, and appears to be vaporware. I'd guess we might see a prototype in 5 to 10 years, and a commercially viable device in another 10 years, or more.

Inherently adaptive polymer nanocomposites are well into their development cycle today by many companies but I fear that a pair of these things would be frightfully expensive. Just be patient though.
