    Non tolerance problem

I have a patient who is having problems with his progressives. He is complaining that when he looks at a sheet of paper the two sides are perfectly straight but are tapered. The top is wider than the bottom.
I have checked all fitting measurements and they seem correct.
He has a work pair which are very basic lenses but he doesn't have the problem in those.
I've asked the lab about it but they say it's not something they've come across. Straight lines looking curved... Yes plenty... But not tapered and straight.
    Any help very much appreciated.

Ive run into a problem similar to this before. The issues the patient was having in my instance was that it was a different lens design and the patient wasn't looking through the proper zones. Patient for me was looking through the intermediate for the top of the page and reading for the bottom. have them just scroll the paper down and see if that helps

I would also check to see if there has been any change in cylinder axis and power moving from or to a more oblique meridian.

Blue Jumper the reading part gets narrower .......................

When progressives get a higher addition than before the reading part gets narrower, and your customer is used to see the lines straight as he/she did before, but those lines now get into the part of distortion and look curved.

Make him an office lens with an extra wide reading aream as for example a ST 35 and the problem will be so,ved.

    That's the key.

Because you said the lens position is optimal, and I assume similar to the work pair, one must now look at the lens design, where there are many bad lens designs on the market to choose from these days. I sampled a few budget PAL a few years ago that felt like I was looking through toy binoculars. I suppose some folks might be able to neuro-adapt to a poor quality lens design, but they'll need a much tougher and resilient visual cortex than the average person, along with zero underlying psychological problems.

Thank you all....I eventually sourced same make/design and he is happy....would be good to know exactly the difference but so hard to get isomaps etc for some of these progressives
