Good points, but we are only talking about taking some possibly preventive measures that seem innocuous to me, such as encouraging parents to limit the amount of mobile device gazing their kids do, moving their working distance out to a normal reading distance (at least), and turning down the intensity of those devices. Some of us are working on additional lens types that offer additional protection for those who want it (are willing to pay for it). That we are free to do so is a nice feature of living in the USA. And it may turn out we were right, when all those studies are done.

I think such early warnings, are kind of like it's turning out in Flint where the majority of those in power poo pooed the possibility that kids had been poisoned and mocked the whistleblowers. I hope the Flint people don't have to wait too long for any studies for the powers that be to take rapid corrective action, starting with recalling their gov. Oops, sorry for straying off topic. Again.

Trust me, when you get into the chemistry and medicine of what is happening in Flint, its not nearly as simple as it seems.

Actually it's very simple. Gov. doesn't like what's going on in Flint, so he uses anti-dem law to throw out the elected officials who were providing clean water, and replace them with his cronies who dug up the water main and SOLD it, then hooked the town's supply to the river, a well known polluted (MERCURY and other bad stuff) river. Kids now have mercury in their blood. Adults are getting sick, some killed by Legionaires' disease in Flint, and it ain't coming from the HVAC system.

It can't get any simpler than that. Res Ipsa Loquitur for sure.

Poisoning from lead is well documented for probably the last 100 years.

That is one very poorly written article. Just as misleading as any of the lab and lens guys fear based propaganda. But they're laughing all the way to the bank...

Many seem to be talking about an experiment using blue light with rat retina cells. Anyone can link me to it?

If in fact blue light from devices is as dangerous as it is made out to be, this is the kind of solution that the industry must pursue. It can't simply be left to "oh, you have to wear blue blocking eyeglasses". Some people don't wear corrective lenses. Are they supposed to go out and buy Plano Blu-tek lenses so as to prevent themselves from developing retinal disease? I don't think so.....if so, the lawyers will have a field day.

Agreed. If its such a problem, the products need to be fixed, not the users.

Not agreeing. I'm betting that most of the readers of this forum promote plano sunglasses to their people who don't need/want Rx glasses. What lawyers will have a field day stopping sellers of plano blue/uv protectors? And to fix that pesky sun problem, are we going to block out the sun? I suppose we can if we continue to spoil the climate and end up with a Venus-like cloud cover.

A huge study has been recently released, finding the blue light from hand held devices or CFL is unlikely to cause damage to the eye even after prolonged exposure.

Not huge. Not much of a study really, since they didn't show their data, their experimental setup, nothing. I think that group is a front for some industry people.
