Not for clear lenses. I recommend them for sunglasses.
I bend light. That is what I do.

Why not on both sides for a clear pair?

When labs send a clear lens with AR on one side it is DEFECTIVE (which happens with somewhat alarming repetition at times). There's no reason to make a clear lens that way. But on a polar SUN lens for example, you DO want less light entering from the front side - hence the backside applied to the backside only.

I worked with an optician once who liked the look of a clear lens with a flash mirror on the front and AR on the back. Not for all his glasses, just one pair. It was... a choice. Looked really cool, though!
I'm Andrew Hamm and I approve this message.

Definitely a choice. Though completely trash optics/reflections. To each their own aesthetically, but not functional optically of course.

It depends on the use case. What he was saying was that ar both sides would be better for this situation.
There is no case where backside AR shouldn't be applied. Its just a question of what coating to use on the front...

Oh and by the way, I wear flash coating on almost all my clear glasses (although they all have a slight tint too)
