Ophthalmologist continues to see patients despite being barred from doing so

An ophthalmologist who was found guilty of fraud and barred from practicing in December 2014 continues to work in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield.
In a press release, Quebec's College of Physicians said Hachmi Hammami continues to practice medicine and write prescriptions despite an injunction prohibiting him from performing the duties of a physician.
The order said Hammami has been asking his patients to pay him in cash for consultations, telling them they would then be reimbursed through Régie de l'assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ). However Hammami has been removed from RAMQ’s authorized physician list.
The College barred Hammami following his conviction of fraud in relation to his medical practice.
The public is being warned that his prescriptions are not valid at pharmacies, and any referrals to other doctors will not be honored.
