Help With Porshe Frame

I have a PT that has a porshe frame that does not have screws for the lens. I am currently in Maryland. He is looking for a place that might be able to get his RX in the frame.The lenses do not have screws or anyway to mount. Any Ideas?

They can probably be cold-mounted!

Big aviator metal frame with the lenses held in with "clips" that curve around the front of the lenses? It may be the style where the bride section rotates forward from the nose and up toward the forehead. Then just slide the lenses upward. Good luck if the Rx is greater than -2D. It can be done, but you'll need to notch the lenses. Warn the Pt. before ordering!

Send'em my way Has he RXed them before? Is he willing to pay what will be necessary if they require notching?

If it is just cold mounted and the lenses are Trivex or Poly - with a very accurate tracing and edging its no problem, in a reasonable RX I won't charge extra for it.

Sometimes you need to use some soap to lubricate the bevel to slide it in.

Is it at all like a LighTec frame? No screws their either, but you can disassemble the frame, if you know how to do it.

That is a strange looking frame. It seems waynegilpin is right, it looks like the bridge can be rotated upwards.

Back in the time (1980s) these were so popular, and the best way to do them was a hide-a-bevel edge that was pushed forward to the front and just barely fit over the frame chassis (with the bridge clip in up position). The nose clip could then be pushed down to secure the lenses, or exchange them for another pair (for color, bifocals, etc.). Yes - the clips did mar the lenses....but they also gave a sign to the wearer how to align the lenses with the clips.

The originals came with interchangeable lenses.

The OP hasn't confirmed that this is even the frame he's talking about! Ok, I did a bunch of those too, and many above -1.00, I was doing shelf bevels before shelf bevels were cool! And no notching needed.

A Porshe Carrera. We used to sell lots of them, some with Rx's. Not always successful with the latter, but back in the day it was all CR-39 so thicker than what we have today, especially in that large sized frame. Good luck.

I wore one of those frames you guys keep posting. That old stuff is coming back. Bet we could sell a few of them today.
But I am waiting with baited breath to see what kaledarkwind is going to post for us to haggle about.

If there isn't any screws, then the lenses will have to be cold mounted. The lab will have to make sure their edgers are calibrated to ensure they get the lenses on size perfectly. Also, I hope the patient's Rx is relatively mild in strength, otherwise the lab will have fits trying to mount the lenses into that frame.
