Safety frames z87-s stamped on the frame

Would one of you please post the documentation that says you can't take the markings from a z.87 marked frame and use that frame for non safety glasses. I can't seem to find that anywhere.

Back to the original post. Why does this patient not need safety eyewear just because he retired? He does no yard work? Hobbies? Projects around the house? I didn't realize when people retired they start surrounding themselves with pillows. And speaking of safety glass no-no's, you CAN'T TAKE OFF PERMANENT SIDE SHIELDS EITHER! But I've done it.

ANSI Z87.1 is available for purchase at http://webstore.ansi.org/

Section 2.3.2 states that if any component of the protector has the permanent marking of Z87.1, then all components must meet all applicable requirements. So if the frame says Z87.1, then the lenses must pass all requirements including the marking requirements. Simply put, if the frame says Z87.1, then the lenses must be safety lenses. Since OSHA recognizes Z87.1, it essentially is the law of the land.

As far as making modifications to the frame, the standard is silent on that. As long as the frame says Z87.1, all components must comply with the standard. If none of the components say Z87.1, then none of the requirements apply.

I would tell the patient to take the mark off themselves, and come back once they've done that. Doing it for them seems risky.
