Latest Lab Acquisitions...Who's Next in Your Opinion?

Hoya Vision Care Acquires Optics Plus

    Monday, October 12, 2015 12:27 AM

LEWISVILLE, Texas—Hoya Vision Care announced Friday that it has acquired Optics Plus, a wholesale lab located in Tonawanda, N.Y., near Buffalo.

The transaction was brokered by HPC Puckett & Company. The purchase price was not disclosed.

“When we seek out new lab partners we are looking beyond manufacturing competence. We are really seeking like-minded people who share our values and the values of independent practices such as long-term relationships, offering more choices, and protecting the value of the brand,” commented Barney Dougher, president of Hoya Vision Care, North America.

“Our strategic initiative is to help independent practices differentiate their brands and overcome commoditization,” added Pamela Tierney, regional manager for Hoya Vision Care. “By having a local presence we will have a greater opportunity to offer our Building Your Blue Light Practice program, education through our online portal Empower U, as well as offering Hoya’s science innovation and technology to help advance practice profitability and provide the best vision solutions for patients.”

Hoya territory managers Paul Manfredi and Julie Harlach will be the primary local representatives for the lab, which will continue to be managed by Forrest Reukauf.

“We are excited to grow the Hoya brand in the Buffalo market,” Reukauf said. “The independent practices here will appreciate the technology edge that Hoya product will bring to their business as well as the values we all share in support of independent practices.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony and reception are planned for later this month. - See more at: http://www.visionmonday.com/vmail-he....Jsg7CYJm.dpuf

Redhot Jumper Hoya is joining the Essilor tactics ................

LEWISVILLE, Texas—Hoya Vision Care announced Friday that it has acquired Optics Plus, a wholesale lab located in Tonawanda, N.Y., near Buffalo.
No wondering about that, Hoya most probably is either fighting back and so will probably some others to have a foothold before Essilor owns everything, here is another one happened last May:

Essilor, Hoya Said to Weigh Bids for Lens Maker Rodenstock
    May 11, 2015 — 7:40 AM EDTUpdated on May 12, 2015 — 2:24 AM EDT

Essilor International SA, the world’s biggest eyeglass lens producer, and Hoya Corp. are among suitors weighing bids for German rival Rodenstock GmbH, people with knowledge of the matter said.
The companies have held informal talks with advisers about potential offers for Rodenstock, which may fetch at least 500 million euros ($557 million), according to the people. Neither has made a final decision to bid, as Essilor is considering potential antitrust hurdles to any acquisition and Tokyo-based Hoya is wary of overpaying for the company, they said, asking not to be identified as the information is private.

The BIG difference between these two is...they both have the funds...Hoya likes to borrow and is gun shy and way too calculated...Essilor has cash in the bank and cahoonas to pull the rigger on any deal it feels would complement their portfolio...Essilor lives in the wild west, Hoya does not.

    Nice post and superb timing.

Now all independent labs left over start hoping that HOYA will make a good offer and they can cash in.

Not likely to happen, not in Canada anyway. Besides, Essilor is always in acquisition mode and much faster to complete a deal.

You are totally correct, they now dominate The North American Continent, most of Europe, the center of optical lens manufacturing in the far east, Thailand, and just about all of the most populous country, India, in the optical eyeglass industry in retail and wholesale.

However others are learning, most of them slow and even more of them a lot slower. There will soon be a trend to catch up with the competition and you have a start with Hoya right here.
