    Franklin BF

    HI all,
I thought an executive was a Franklin BF. Was just told by lab that they are similar but not the same. How are they different? Does anyone have an image of one. I did a good image search but it only showed executives and old frames/lenses.

Two lenses actually fused together after they have been cut in half horizontally. It allows for things such as prism in the DVO which is the only time I've ever used them.

A Franklin is actually 2 separate lenses that are glued together. An exec is 1 lens with 2 different front curves.

Thanks. Makes sense. We need BO prism for distance and BI prism for near. Franklin the only way to go here?

You could go with an ultra wide segment and decenter to achieve this but the prescription needs to be in a certain range to make this work.

IN most cases I have seen the base in reading is to help with the convergence demand in which case a second pair is really the ultimate answer.

We do have a few members of OptiBoard who can fabricate them. Perhaps they will chime in. Franklin bifocals (and I have seen trifocals) are a Godsend for solving unusual prismatic requirements and should be in every opticians toolbox. They ain't too bad for everyday occupational needs either.

I believe she still does these on a custom basis.
