    High Rx Curve Sunglasses

    Hi All,

We have a patient with Rx as follows:

    RE: -9.25/-3.00 x 179
    LE: -6.25/-2.75 x 149

    Requirements:
Any RB sunglasses with base 4/6/8
Thinnest Rx lenses with maximum tint

Any suggestion, including contact details of a lab who may assist us in this matter.

    Thanks

This is what the Daddy-O collection was made for. The look of a wrap, but works with flatter bc lenses

Remember when they almost discontinued this line? Had to make room for some more jungle print wayfarers!

I would consider the PD to be a very important Rx component for your question.

Wiley X has a couple options with a wrap frame with snap-in flatter-base gaskets.

Or even better yet look into lenticularized lenses that will hugely reduce edge thickness and enable you to put just about any Rx in any curve and still achieve decent optics and thinness. I know ICE-TECH and Laramy-K offer this specialization on many lenses. If you want it dark but with good vision: polarized with solid mirror. Those options will make your patient the coolest -9.00 sunglasses he's ever seen. Just be sure to understand lenticularization and discuss it with you patient first so you all understand what it will do.

I find it difficult to feel comfortable while wearing them. The optical zone seems small.

True that's the trade-off. But then a -9.00 in a 6+ base isn't going to have any decent peripheral either and is going to be hugely thick and distorted so it's really the best alternative in the high wrap. I've only done a couple and they worked great, but I wouldn't do it routinely and certainly not without a clear demo to the patient first.

LOL. Hey, the Daddy-O rocks for high lens powers, but it's made out of some indestructible alien advanced civilization material that is super-heat resistant and beyond hard to glaze. AmIrigthoramIright?

Ditto on this. Flash mirror hides a lot of junk, and you look like a superstar.

Darnit, I've liked too many of your comments and it won't let me any more. I'm convinced they made some kinda deal with the devil when the invented that crap. However if you have a edger that can do a step bevel, at least you won't flatten the crap out of the frame with the lenses in it. As for temple adjustments...

My fingers still have the scars from superheating a pair and trying to insert lenses.

You need to toughen up your hands doc. I've got 40 acres of brush that needs clearing and a pile of wood that needs to be split. I'll be happy to let you build up some calluses and enjoy the great outdoors and I won't charge you a dime!

I can't provide you with the soft cushy environment of the great outdoors that 24/7 can but if you have access to a hot black top surface, palm down push ups will make hands strong like Russian bear.

Now glazing the Daddy-o was fine. Easy. The hard part was removing the glass lenses that were in there to begin with! Unless you went for the place in plastic bag and smash glass version of removing demos.....
