Need Help with a Welder Issue

I have a patient who recently purchased a Lincoln Electric Auto Darkening welding mask. When he strikes an arc to weld he has a hard time seeing the work he is doing through the mask with his glasses.

Has no issues with eyeglasses at any other time.

    Rx OD +1.75 -0.50 x 45
    OS +1.25 -0.25 x 68

    Lenses - Polycarbonate, no AR.

Mig Welding and mask set to 10.

He can purchase an magnifying insert for the mask but I wonder if anyone has past history with this.

So I consulted my sister who is a welder herself. She believes he needs to adjust the settings so that the hood darkens and lightens slower to accommodate the change of lighting.

    ^^ this +10.

It isn't the Rx, it's the auto settings on the filter.

Have him turn the speed down as low as it can go, then strike some arcs and do some short beads. Slowly turn up the speed until it's performing to his requirements. (Tell him to read the instructions that came with the hood )

I would like to add that added task lighting(lighting up the work area like a airport landing strip) helps immensely. The light created, and reflected, creates extra annoyance.
