    Mounting Polarized lenses

    Hey y'all,

we have a job coming in with polarized lenses, and i've never really dealt with them before.
my question is, are there any out of the ordinary tips for mounting these? do i need to turn them to a certain axis or anything?

    any advice is appreciated.

Is it a spherical correction? If so, you will have to check the orientation of the polarized filter. If it is a toric correction the lenses should have been ground with the axis aligned correctly with the filter orientation, but again you will want to check. Maybe someone more experienced than me has an easy trick for checking the orientation?

If they are finished lenses and have been generated properly, then you should be able dot then up and edge like any other sv finished lens. It's been awhile but as i recall there are clear hash marks on the outside edge, that is the 180 axis.

Take a known pair of polarized lenses and turn them 90degrees, then rotate the blanks until they black out 100%, draw a line horizontally across the lens blank at this alignment. Repeat for both lenses. Definitely check even if they have cylinder correction, this is something that ALL labs mess up once and a while.

If you're going to be mounting them yourself, if the frame is plastic, be careful when applying heat and pressure upon insertion. The polarization laminate filter just under front surface can sometimes chip on the upper nasal. I always do a light feathering on the front of polarized lenses which will mitigate the risk and prevent a breakage and job delay.
